This year the Bessie Head Heritage Trust is again holding a short story competition, to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of Botswana's independence. In preparation for the short story contest the Trust will once more hold a one-day writing workshop in Gaborone on 21 May 2016. The facilitators include previous Bessie Head competition award winners Cheryl Ntumy and Wazha Lopang. The workshop is sponsored by Diamond Educational Publishers.

The objective of the workshop is to help participants improve their writing and so prepare them for this year's short story competition. Those who wish to attend this important workshop will need to apply. Those chosen to attend will be required to pay for their transport to and from the venue (in Gaborone) and for their lunch. Teas will be provided.

How to Apply for the Workshop

  2. Stories must be in English, double-spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman font, black type on white background. No fancy fonts or backgrounds will be accepted (they are extremely difficult to read).
