Miscellaneous useful sites |
This page is intended as a collection of miscellaneous sites other than those of direct academic relevance - links to academic and related sources are to be found throughout our site, under the appropriate categories. (For example, Neil Parsons' Botswana History Pages contain numerous links to sites for further information in each subject.) The sites on this page are more general, but may be useful to our visitors.
A very useful site for finding second-hand books is the Advanced Book Exchange, www.abebooks.com. This searches a database of a large number of second-hand dealers. In most cases you can complete the purchase on-line, by means of a credit card transaction through abebooks.com. In others you may need to email the shop concerned, but this is not common now.
Another similar service is www.alibris.com.
Amazon books also provides a service whereby second-hand sellers can advertise and sell copies from their pages, with payments being processed through the Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk credit-card system. However, for some incomprehensible reason Amazon will only complete such transactions when the address is in a particular list of countries, which does not include Botswana. This restriction does not affect new book sales. Thus, we in Botswana can buy new books from Amazon, but cannot buy second-hand books through them, although people in many other countries can.
The Full Universal Currency Converter enables you to do quick on-line conversions for any currency - including Pula.
