Gillian Eilersen was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, in the late 1930s. The similarities between her origins and those of Bessie Head in part prompted her to write the masterful biography, Bessie Head: Thunder Behind Her Ears. She is married with multiple children and grandchildren and lives in Kolding, Denmark.

Leloba Molema and Mary Lederer are two long-time English lecturers at the University of Botswana with a strong interest in Bessie Head. They are founder members of the ad hoc committee of the Bessie Head Heritage Trust.

Margaret Daymond and Margaret Lenta are Bessie Head scholars and teachers at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban. Ms Daymond edited the posthumous publication of Bessie's first novel, The Cardinals and contributed "Bessie's Enduring Greatness" to these pages.

Stephen Gray is a well-known South African writer and poet. He met Bessie in the 1980s and has promoted her writing ever since.

If you have studied and written about Bessie Head and would like to see your photo here, please just send it in! And don't forget to include the manuscript. <smile ...>
